Why the Name Change?

When we first chose the name Gastown Tattoo Parlour we thought it simple, easy to remember and locate. As time has gone on and the history of Gassy Jack (whom the neighbourhood of Gastown is named after) with regards to his relations with an under-age girl from Squamish Nation has been brought to light, it made us reconsider how important our ties are to a name embedded in problematic colonial history and not a name belonging to any of our own.
With Indigenous issues and the needs of our local downtown east-side neighbours being at the heart of our community service, continuing on with a name that could potentially alienate the communities we hold dear just didn’t sit right with us.
We are happy to announce that our shop will from now on be known as Pacific Rose Tattoo. Thank you to our community and clients for your past and continued support as we move forward with open hearts towards the future as Pacific Rose Tattoo, where everyone is welcome so long as they are welcoming to everyone.
